Sea Salt: A Natural Treasure

From an ancient and humble ingredient, sea salt is once again a protagonist in the world of cosmetics. Obtained by natural evaporation of sea water in Italian salt mines – from Margherita di Savoia to Trapani – whole salt retains a rich organic and mineral component, making it more than a simple exfoliant. If it was once used to preserve food or soothe the skin, today scientific research confirms its anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties.

Rich in trace elements such as magnesium, calcium and selenium, it helps reduce transdermal water loss, erythema and skin roughness, improving deep hydration. Particularly effective in scrubs and treatments for sensitive or psoriasis-prone skin, whole salt acts not only mechanically but also biologically. Formulations that combine it with sea silt and omega-3 fatty acids also show promising effects against oxidative stress.
Still little valued compared to the more well-known Dead Sea salt, Italian salt can represent a key ingredient for more sustainable, effective and deeply local cosmetics.
